MENTORING EVENT

Mentoring has been identified as a key tool for addressing individual and organizational development in the modern organisation. It can help individuals identify and achieve their personal and organisational objectives; and facilitates the acquisition of requisite knowledge and skills for the management of a successful organisation or business.

As part of our network of programmes and commitment to the development of women’s potentials, and as part of our Mentoring Infrastructure WIMBIZ has committed to a quarterly dinner with the Mentors from our monthly Business Roundtable Lunch and Mentees with which we intend to build generational bridges and serve as an avenue for the Mentors to give back to society by teaching oncoming generations the ropes in their respective fields of endeavour.

ROUNDTABLE BUSINESS LUNCH

For the older women who are more accomplished, their greatest issue is the lack of opportunities for them to network, share experiences and interact with other women in business and build enduring and beneficial business relationships. In February 2006, in response to the critical challenges of women in management and business in helping each other to grow and succeed, we commenced monthly Business Roundtable Lunches; and today we have a pool of 30-40 women who attend these lunches regularly. Interestingly these women have become our pool of mentors in our developing mentoring infrastructure.

The aim of this programme is to bring women executives together to share experiences, build a pool of Mentors, provide opportunities for them to give back to society, build generational bridges and create networking opportunities. All these are the building blocks for a formal structure for the WIMBIZ Mentoring Programme. The roundtable programme holds every 1st Thursday of every month at La Scala Restaurant, MUSON Centre, Onikan between 12.30pm and 2.30pm. Further details can be obtained from our Secretariat. WINNING WITHOUT COMPROMISE (CAMPUS OUTREACH SERIES)

“Winning Without Compromise” was the theme of an Open Forum held at the University of Lagos in June 2006. WIMBIZ partnered with Soriyan Training Network to put together the successful event that was targeted at undergraduate ladies. The initiative was geared towards preparing these young women for the challenges of the workplace and also how to cope and win without compromising their values. An interactive session unveiled real issues that were resolved to a large extent. The success of the event has birthed the will to reproduce the colloquium on a quarterly basis and will be extended to other institutions with the target audience.
