‘How Women Can Succeed In Business, Management.’

For many years, there has been agitation for women to be given more places in the corporate corridors.
This clamour gained more prominence after the world women conference held in Beijing, China in 1995.

While some persons argue that women should compete with the men counterparts in every sphere of life, and the competent ones rewarded accordingly, some hardliners want a reasonable percent reserved for the female folks and a different entry standard set for them.

Lately, some women in professional and business circles have been speaking on how women can realize their potential, showcase and maximize their endowment both in management and business.

Promoters of women involvement in business argue that they posses an equal, if not better, acumen than the men folk.

According to the Head, Human resources, Regional Policy, shell Exploration and Production Nigeria, Mrs. Alero Onosode, “Women have more potential than they have been allowed to explore. The problem inhibiting women maximizing their endowment are the level of our development, socio-cultural limitations and value system, male dominance of corporate management and business, and domestic limitations.

In the view of the Executive Director, Junior Achievement, Nigeria, Mrs. Kunbi Wuraola, women are sticklers for competence and performance.

She noted that the reason some people believe female bosses were strict was because they were often reluctant to bend the rules and performance.

Nigeria boost of example of Amazons who have in recent years, proved that they have the heart and guile to excel in areas where their male counterparts have failed.

The likes of the Director-General of the National Agency for Drugs and Food Administration and Control, Prof. Dora Akunyili, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Minister of Education, Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili, among others, are cited.

According to Wuraola, women have the patience to stabilize and grow in an organization regardless of the challenges and limitation.

Wuraola added that some men opposed their wives’ professional success out of fear that their spouse would outshine them.
According to the Executive Director, Masterpiece Resources Development Centre, Mrs. Modupe Oyekunle, women have the natural ability to flower and if given the right atmosphere, their productivity both in business and management, will be remarkable and outstanding....
