‘How Women Can Succeed In Business, Management.’ (continued)
For women to maximize great potential in business and management, the Chairperson, Board of Trustees, Women in Management and Business, Mrs. Ibukunoluwa Awosika, advised them to be purposeful, determined to network and equip themselves with necessary competence tools for greatness. She also advised employers of labour to create the right corporate environment for women to succeed.
She also advised them to invest in capacity building for women so as to increase productivity, turnover, and profit.
The Executive Secretary, WIMBIZ, Mrs. Yemisi Ikuomola, identified lack of recognition of women’s contribution as an inhibiting factor.
“If a woman and a man are employed in an organization at the same time, most likely, the man would assume the management position, not because the woman is incapable but because of the societal belief in man as leaders” Ikuomola said.
She tasked women to have functional Budgets for their business, save early, invest wisely and maintain self-dependence.
She said, “Your environment will not restrict you, except you restrict yourself”
“Determination and readiness for greatness by women are very vital and necessary. Some women concentrate on domestic affairs and so lose career or business focus. By the time they realize it, it is already late.
Ikuomola also warned against self-defeatist tendency. She said women must have faith in their competence and ability to succeed.
For Oyekunle, women must understand and free themselves from retrogressive philosophy; determine to succeed and have faith in God.
She added, “Preparation is also very important. When preparation meets with opportunity, there will be a productive explosion.”
She also called on government to help women to develop their potential.
